OBG · Gynaecological oncology: ovarian cancer risk assessment
Sample itemThe Risk of Malignancy Index (RMI) for an adnexal mass combines which parameters?
Original practice item, not a recalled exam question. Nothing here is recorded.
The answer and the reasoning
A. Ultrasound score, menopausal status and serum CA-125
RMI equals ultrasound score multiplied by menopausal score multiplied by CA-125 level. A value above 200 suggests a high risk and referral to a gynaecological oncology centre. CA-125 may be raised in endometriosis, menstruation and pelvic infections.
Option by option
A. Ultrasound score, menopausal status and serum CA-125 (correct)
Correct. RMI = U x M x CA-125.
B. Ultrasound score, CEA and age
CEA is not part of the RMI.
C. hCG, LDH and AFP
These are germ cell tumour markers.
D. Age, parity and AFP
Age, parity and AFP are not parameters.
